Do cops love speed cameras so much because it reduces the amount of tax collecting they normally would do?

You know on your quota (cough cough) I mean performance standards?

I’ve heard a lot of cops opinions on these speed cameras, never once have I heard one oppose the concept.

Why are cops deeply in love with speed cameras?
Don’t gas me up with that they make the roads safer crap, I like running on E.

For every subjective study showing they make roads safer, I could show you one saying they cause more accidents. The statistics can be skewed to say whatever you want.

Don’t listen to Kebert he has no idea what he is talking about.

It helps them with quotas. Cops are weezily little men just looking out for more $$

    They make roads safer!

You bring up a very good point. It does in fact reduce the burden on police to tax collect, so I think you are correct.

Many police – primarily the younger ones – would love nothing more than a complete surveillance society.

*Street cameras don’t make roads safer. The first post who said such a thing typd that out as a natural response, because we would ASSUME, that they WOULD make things safer. However, it is a proven fact there are more accidents at locations where cameras are as people attempt to avoid tickets.

Police often dont acknowledge that tax payers and laws are used to make money, so, it must be for expanding safety. However, if accidents are caused by this, it is not expanding safety, so the official reasoning for the cameras is proven false.

Another point, police are frequently caught on these speeding cameras. They are never charged, even though their lights were not on.

One judge (who sentenced speeders caught on camera) was caught himself on speeding cameras. He had the charges thrown out on terms that it was unconstitutional.

All over america speed camera tickets are being declared illegal and unconstitutional – good to see we have some smart people who believe in freedom and liberty out there.

    - Note – I answered this as if you said ‘red light camera’ instead of ‘speed camera’
The answer still fits for the most part though.

We don’t have cameras here. I’m fine with them…..of course, I stop at red lights so….
And while I love reading immature/ignorant comments, if you obey the law, you won’t have to worry about these "quotas" you’re claiming exist.
Plus, in your own little world, that will really get the officers in some hot water.

Your studies showing that the cameras cause accidents, are going to be that way because people aren’t doing what they need to do to safely navigate the intersections.

If people didn’t ride other peoples’ bumpers, anticipated the light/went slow enough to get safely stopped if they weren’t paying enough attention, or (gasp) paid attention…..there wouldn’t be accidents.

Maybe some day people will figure out that they aren’t crashing because of the cameras, they’re crashing because they don’t know how to drive safely.

i dont get why people give cops so much crap, they do a good job,
just beause you probably got caught doing something illegal and you blame cops, just stop being so imature and grow up.

Wow! I live in near Philadelphia near Grant and Roosevelt Blvd, which is the second most dangerous intersection in the whole coutry. Since the cameras were installed I stopped hearing about people dying there as much as I used to, accidents have gone waaaaay down. If it was up to you, people would be dying because you don’t think it’s a good idea. You have to look at what kind of accident is caused. Without cameras it’s usually a T-bone which is fatal half the time. With cameras it’s usually a rear end collision which obviously is not that fatal since mostly every car now has air bags. I assume you think that extra airport security is not needed also? Also I think you’re just on E, instead of running on E. Am I right?
